This accessory combines an auto charger with an FM transmitter so you can recharge your battery while you listen to your PSP's audio through your car stereo speakers.
One end of this video game console accessory contains two dongles that plug into your PSP's power and headphone ports. The other end plugs into your car's lighter or power port as a power source.
Inside the car power adapter end of this video game console accessory is an FM transmitter that broadcasts at three different frequencies. You just set your car radio to one of the frequencies and your PSP audio is picked up by your radio. If there's a strong radio station at that frequency, you can adjust the transmitter to another preset channel.
When we first plugged in the Power Tuner, we noticed an audible whine behind the PSP audio. After some readjustments of the accessory's plug, we were able to reduce the whine to a level where we could barely notice it. The audio quality isn't CD or MP3 clarity, but it was as good as a normal radio station. It was great for listening to music and books on tape.
The Power Tuner features a four-foot cord, so you can have the PSP in the back seat. Any audio that comes out of the PSP can be broadcast through your car speakers, including games, movies, and music. It worked especially well for letting more than one rear passenger watch a movie with the audio track being broadcast throughout the car, although a game soundtrack ends up being more of a distraction.
The Power Tuner retails for a great price for a two-in-one video game console accessory. The fact that you can recharge while you listen to audio makes it especially useful, as battery life would drain fairly quickly on a long drive.
